Postknight 2 is an RPG-like adventure game developed by Kurechii. It is the second game in the Postknight series, acting as a sequel to the first one. It entered early access in March 2021. It had been officially released on December 2021.
Seven years have passed since the events of the first game. The player returns as a new Postknight, traversing the world of Kurestal to deliver knight mail and fight off monsters and antagonists in the way. The postknight that the players played as in PK 1 is regarded as the "Legendary Postknight".
Overview[]
The game structure as seen in teasers and clips provided by Kurechii show that the format of the game is similar to the first one, with players being able to traverse Areas and interact with NPCs by houses and buildings. The trailers have shown that Blacksmiths, Alchemists, and Merchants will return, though additional details have not been given.
The art style has also improved compared to the first game, with more refined characters and more details in the background and foreground. The colors are also more subdued.
As this game acts as a sequel, several characters from the first game will return with drastically different roles.
Gameplay[]
In teasers and clips, gameplay is largely similar to the first game. While in combat, the player character moves from left to right, fending off the several beasts, monsters, and antagonists to reach their goal and/or deliver the mail item.
Combat has gone through significant changes. Previously, a player could only have one Charge Skill and Shield Skill at their call. The collection of Skill Books now gives the player the option to use a variety of abilities based on their weapon choice, either by using a Skill in repetition, or by chaining a Charge Skill with a Shield Skill, in either order for different affects. Weapon options, aside from the original Sword and Shield, include dual-wielding Daggers or 2-handed Hammers, with each of the three types having different advantages and play styles.
Story[]
The story within Postknight 2 is segmented into distinct plot threads that typically begin and end within the introduction and completion of their respective village, with the player as the protagonist.
Maille[]
The player starts as a Postknight trainee in Maille, overseen by their instructor, Tedric. The player's rival (Almond) passes the final test and becomes a full-time Postknight, whereas the player must help fellow trainee Pearl in her endeavours to become a Postknight. Along the way, they meet Razielle (referred to as Raz from now on), an ominous trainee who seems to know more than she lets on. In the process, they all become eligible to appear for the final test, where they defeat the Omega Dire Wolf and become Postknights.
Pompon[]
The player then goes to Pompon, where there is no postbox (unlockable after you defeat the boss). The player goes around helping survivors cope with the aftermath of a dragon attack while attempting to seek suitable candidates for the role of Chief as Chief Merrick (leader of Pompon in the first game) has passed on. The player then meets Leader Haman, a strange old man, and Flint, a kleptomaniac who was taken in by Haman after both his parents died during the attack. The player reports back to Magnolia with Haman being the potential new chief of Pompon. As the player continues helping out the villagers alongside Almond and Raz, they eventually find out Haman is the one behind the destruction of Pompon. The player then battles Haman, saving Pompon with Magnolia being the new chieftess.
Caldemount[]
Following this, the player is sent by Magnolia to Caldemount to seek aid in rebuilding Pompon. They encounter Dahlia and Camellia, who have taken over their fathers' respective businesses. The player also meets Amethyst, a noble lady seeking more in life. Upon attempting to deliver the letter requesting aid for Pompon, a fake Postknight sabotages the meeting and detonates a small yet harmless bomb, alarming the Royal Guardmaster Osric, who vilifies the Postknights as traitors. The player is tasked with investigating the attack and rallying the people to their side. Eventually, they discover a plot by the exiled Dark Knight Kraig to destroy the Postknights as revenge for foiling his plot seven years ago (the events of the Fractured Forest in the first game). In the end, the player defeats Kraig and manages to deliver the aid request.
Violetfair[]
After sending the request to Caldemount, Magnolia also needs the player to secure lumber at Violetfair since the trees there have been burned down. Although they succeed, they need to wait until the Triwagon Tournament is concluded, meanwhile also being trained by Captain Seraphine as a new B-rank Postknight. After a short while, some strange paranormal activities put some Treants to unrest, leading Senna to keeping watch on the forest. Senna eventually finds the source of the paranormal, which are three Summoning Cards, formerly being used by Guardians that went missing years ago. She planned to sent them to Sera before a desperate Almond tries to send it himself out of jealousy to the player. Unfortunately, Almond was attacked by Kraig's spy and daughter, who appeared to be Raz. Born and raised in Fractured Forest, she was saddened by Kraig's heartless parenting and the dark magic in her blood deemed a curse, shunned by everyone she meets. Raz planned to confess to the player for forgiveness, but hearing the voice of the Guardians had led her new purpose, wrecking havoc around town. Eventually the player had convinced the town to cancel the Tournament (due to Chris' rash actions, resulting in all townsfolk searching for him) and defeating Raz. despite her newfound powers. Raz, being unable to let the Guardians go, left Violetfair before saying goodbye to the player.
Aldor[]
Cassandra had reports that a runaway Raz had been spotted at Aldor Mountains, leading both Commander Cassandra and the player to find her while also delivering packages for Aldor Scholars' newest project, the Guardian Golem to protect and defend Aldor by the Royal Court degree. At the outskirts, the player spots Fleur's assistant, Xander, who has been sheltering Raz out of curiosity due to her status as a Summoner. While the project seems successful, suddenly the Guardian Golem going haywire, controlling its lower Golems and attacking everything in its sight. This event upsets local wildlife and bandits-for-hire who have been paid to wreck havoc. In the midst of an argument, the player, Raz, and Xander had reported to the higher-ups that the last delivery has been sabotaged, leading to the Guarding Golem going on a rampage. This is proven true by a depressed Almond, who ultimately confessed that Osric "fixed" the package to prove that Postknights are dangerous forces. He also says that he resigned from the Postknights out of guilt, but both the player, Raz, and even the Commander convinced him to stay and redeem his actions by helping defeating the Golem. After the Golem stopped its attacks, Osric had been arrested and stripped of his title for treason. Back at Maille, with renewed passion, Almond has to face punishment he caused all those events, but he was let go with a demotion as a C-rank. meanwhile Raz had to leave the Postknights and said to go on a journey to find other Summoners and maybe her mother back at Fractured Forest.
Sagacia[]
Colin asks the player if they are interested in achieving S-Rank (if they haven't earned it yet until this point). Suddenly, a lone Postknight from Quivtol by the name Larielle (whom they meet at Pompon), struggles to open the Postknight's branch at Quivtol due to its laws & traditions being made by Humans. The player volunteers themselves to help her while also progressing to earn the S-Rank.
